I was talking to a lawyer from another judicial circuit the other day. He told me that the judges in his county consider drug sales to be “victimless crimes.”
I’m glad we don’t have those judges here.
Sit down with a mother who has watched her bright daughter degenerate from drug addiction. Try to tell her drug sales are victimless crimes.
Chat with a teenager whose mother is in drug rehab and convince him that drug crimes don’t leave victims.
Attend the funeral of a college student killed by an overdose. Go to a foster home and cuddle a “crack baby”. Watch a meth addict claw her skin raw. Go to divorce court and see the families wrecked by drugs.
When greed drives a person to sell drugs, there are lots of victims. Some are children. Others are motorists killed by drivers who are under the influence of drugs. Have you ever considered the drain on our economy caused by workers hospitalized or otherwise unable to work due to illegal drugs?
Let’s face it. When a criminal sells drugs, we’re all victims.
Last week we tried and convicted a man for attempting to purchase a half pound of methamphetamine. He was going to sell it and he didn’t care who got hurt.
Well, I care. Don’t you?
