Two letters to the editor that ran in the Fayette Daily News yesterday from longtime local residents echoed an opinion that has often been heard throughout this campaign; that Scott Ballard is the better man to be District Attorney because he is a longtime local resident – so he has a vested interest in protecting this community and he knows what the citizens of the Griffin Circuit expect of him and the DA's office.

"I will vote for Scott Ballard because he is the best qualified and all the people I talk to want Scott because many have known him for years and we trust him. Scott knows the people and he knows what we expect of him. Mr. Hayes is a new comer who we do not know anything about."
- Hollis Harris

"…Who is this guy, this Rudjard Hayes? He's not local, he's not one of ours. From my perspective he's an ambitious climber; a carpetbagger…Far from being pro-family; Rudjard Hayes is actually anti-family in this rigid lock'em up attitudes. When it's appropriate, Scott can be as tough as any old time prosecutor. Scott has no troubles securing convictions and hard time for those that deserve it. Scott Ballard is and has been, an excellent District Attorney and this county and circuit should re-elect him with overwhelming support."
- Lloyd W. Walker

The Fayette County Citizen endorsed Scott to win re-election today. In their endorsement, the Citizen expressed concerns about Scott’s opponent’s take-no-prisoners, bury-them-all-under-the-jail attitude and stated they “would prefer a man of conscience like Ballard in charge of making the big life-and-death decisions in our county.”

Scott's challenger has recently claimed that the DA's Office is soft on internet child predators. But as usual, Rudjard Hayes' claims are intentionally misleading and show his desperation to twist the facts in failed attempts to achieve any sort of traction with voters. Hayes' irresponsible comments may even endanger children by encouraging would-be predators. The DA's office is working hard and cooperating closely with law enforcement in order to prosecute these cases and break new ground in a new area of criminal law.

"If there is a single pervert who thinks after reading the information spread by Mr. Hayes that we will not aggressively prosecute this crime, then they'll find out to the contrary," Ballard said in a recent article in The Citizen. "But I hope for the sake of our children nobody believes that."
